AC Maintenance Prices in Cairo 2026 — Cleaning, Gas & Installation
In peak summer, the AC technician becomes the most expensive number in your phone — which is exactly when prices start behaving strangely. This guide gives indicative ranges for cleaning, regassing and installation, and explains the one thing that matters most: a healthy AC does not consume refrigerant. If someone tells you it needs topping up every year, you don't need gas — you have a leak.
AC maintenance prices — indicative table
These are ranges for comparison, not a fixed tariff. In peak season (June–July) prices rise and technicians are stretched thin — if you can service the unit in spring, you'll pay less and get a better slot.
The call-out or diagnostic fee is usually a separate line, and it should be deducted from the repair cost if you go ahead. Ask about that explicitly before they arrive.
| Service | Indicative range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
These are indicative ranges for comparison only and vary by details, area and timing. Eidak doesn't set a fixed price — professionals bid and you compare.
Regassing: the part nobody tells you
A split AC is a sealed circuit. The refrigerant inside is not burned or consumed with use the way petrol is in a car. So if the gas is low, it means exactly one thing: there is a leak somewhere — at the connections, in the copper line, or in the unit itself.
Which means an annual "top-up" isn't maintenance, it's a symptom. A good technician finds the leak first (soap solution or a detector), fixes it, and then charges the system. A technician who just refills without asking where the gas went will be back next year — and so will your bill (regassing runs roughly 500–1,200 EGP).
When is a top-up legitimate? After the unit has been uninstalled and moved, after a genuine leak repair, or after a component in the circuit is replaced. Otherwise, the right question is simply: "where did the gas go?"
AC not cooling — try this before calling anyone
- Clean the filters yourself. It's the single most common cause, takes ten minutes with soap and water, and can save you an entire call-out.
- Check the outdoor unit — if it's caked in dust or something is blocking airflow in front of it, efficiency drops sharply.
- Confirm the remote is on Cool, not Fan, and the setpoint is actually low.
- If water is dripping inside, that's usually a blocked drain line, not a cooling fault.
- If it runs but blows air that never gets cold, and the compressor cuts out quickly — that's when you call a technician.
What drives the technician's price
- The job itself — a filter clean and a full water-wash of the indoor unit are different in both time and price.
- Floor and access to the outdoor unit — if it needs ropes or hanging out of a window, that's a genuine risk and a separate line item.
- Capacity — a 3HP unit is not a 1.5HP unit, for either gas or cleaning.
- Refrigerant type — newer types cost more; ask which one your unit uses.
- Pipe runs on installation — extra copper is charged per metre, and it's the item most often left out of a quote.
- Timing — midnight and Friday call-outs in peak summer are priced accordingly.
Red flags
- "It needs gas" with no discussion of why the gas is low, and no attempt to find a leak.
- "The compressor is finished, it has to be replaced" within five minutes and without any measurement. The compressor is the most expensive part in the machine — get a second opinion before agreeing.
- Refusing to state the diagnostic fee before arriving ("we'll sort it out when I get there").
- No invoice, and no warranty on either the labour or the replaced part.
- Swapping a part without showing it to you or leaving you the old one. Ask for it.
Eidak: compare offers, and pay only once it's cooling
In summer you call four technicians, three don't answer, and the fourth quotes a number with nothing behind it. On Eidak you post the job once — unit type, capacity, and the symptom — and the offers come to you. You compare price, ratings and each technician's history before choosing.
And you don't pay up front. The money is held in escrow until you've run the unit and confirmed it's actually cooling. Minimum task value is 200 EGP, and Eidak adds 10% on top of the bid — the technician receives 100% of their bid.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does an AC technician cost in Cairo?
- It depends on the job. Cleaning a split unit runs roughly 250–600 EGP, a diagnostic call-out 150–400 EGP (which should be credited against the repair), and regassing 500–1,200 EGP depending on refrigerant type and capacity. These are indicative and rise at the peak of summer.
- Is regassing every year normal?
- No — not at all. A split AC is a sealed circuit and refrigerant isn't consumed. If it's low, there's a leak that needs fixing first. Anyone refilling it every year without looking for the leak is selling you the same problem every summer.
- How often should I service my AC?
- Filters: roughly monthly during the season, and you can do that yourself. A deep clean of the indoor and outdoor units: once a year, ideally before summer rather than in the middle of it — the job is easier and the pricing calmer.
- Is the diagnostic fee deducted from the repair?
- With most reputable technicians, yes — but it isn't a universal rule. Ask directly before they come, and make it part of what you agree in writing.
- What does installing a split AC include?
- Installation runs roughly 600–1,500 EGP, but that usually assumes a standard pipe run. Extra copper, drilling through a concrete wall, or a steel bracket for the outdoor unit are billed separately. Get the all-in price in writing before work starts.
