This is the one guide on Eidak that isn't really about buying a service. Everywhere else you're hiring a job: a pipe fixed, a wall painted. Here you're hiring a person, into your home, usually with no contract and very little in the way of protection. So yes, this page gives you the indicative hourly and daily rates and what genuinely drives them — but it also spends as much time on the agreement itself, because that's where this work goes wrong. One thing up front: we're not going to teach you how to pay less for the same labour.

These are ranges for comparison, not an official tariff. They move with area, apartment size, its condition, and what's actually being asked for.
A day rate normally covers a standard working day of 6–8 hours — and "a day" should mean an agreed start time and an agreed finish time, not "until it's done". That open-ended framing is the root of most disputes in this work.
And an honest note: if you find an offer far below this range, ask yourself why. In manual work, a genuinely below-market price usually means someone who wasn't in a position to say no. That isn't a bargain.

Hourly or daily — and what really drives the cost
Hourly (indicatively 50–100 EGP an hour) makes sense for bounded work: a kitchen and bathroom, a quick tidy before guests, a small flat. Its drawback is that it puts both sides under the clock — you watch it, and they rush.
Daily (indicatively 300–700 EGP) suits a whole apartment, a deep clean, or a place that's been shut up. The work also comes out better, because nobody is racing a meter.
A weekly regular visit (indicatively 250–600 EGP per visit) is the cheapest option over time, for a simple reason: a home cleaned weekly never reaches the state that needs a full day.
What actually drives the cost:
- Size and the number of bathrooms — bathrooms, more than bedrooms, are what consume the hours.
- Condition — a flat cleaned weekly and a flat shut up for six months are two different jobs with two different levels of effort, and they should carry two different prices.
- Exactly what's included — routine cleaning? Laundry and ironing? A deep kitchen with the extractor hood? Windows and balconies? Each of those is additional work.
- Products and equipment — do you have them, or are they bringing them? If they're bringing them, that's a cost they're absorbing and it belongs in the rate.
- Travel — a long journey is time and money out of their pocket. Many people add something for it, and that's the right instinct.
- Heavy lifting — moving sofas, the fridge, the washing machine. It's hard on the back. If you need it, say so up front and price it in.
A fair agreement — before the work starts
This is the most important section here. Almost every problem in this line of work comes from a vague agreement, and the person who pays for that vagueness is always the one with less power. A clear agreement protects both sides.
- Fix the hours: from what time to what time. Not "a day's work", and not "until it's finished".
- Fix the scope: write the list. "The apartment" is elastic — a list is what stops the job quietly expanding after they arrive. That creep is the commonest form of exploitation here: you agree to cleaning, and by the afternoon there's laundry, ironing and a balcony, for the same money.
- If the work grows beyond what was agreed, the pay grows. Obvious, and still worth writing down.
- Pay in full at the end of the work, the same day. Don't defer it, and don't shave it for reasons that weren't agreed in advance.
- Food, water, and a break. Someone is working eight hours in your home. Rest and refreshment aren't a favour you're granting.
- The bathroom: they get to use it. This needs saying, because some households genuinely refuse.
- Travel: for a long journey, or a very early or late start, agree something toward it.
- If you cancel at the last minute, they've lost a day's work. The decent thing is to pay part of the rate or offer a nearby replacement date — which is exactly what you'd expect if they cancelled on you.
- Language matters. They have a name. And their phone and belongings are theirs.
Red flags — on both sides
Both parties in this arrangement are exposed to real risk, and this page isn't going to speak for only one of them.
- For the household: someone who won't give a name, any verifiable contact, or any rating or work history. You're letting a person into your home — you're entitled to know who.
- For the household: being asked for the full payment before any work starts. Payment normally follows the work — and if it's an agency taking money up front and not passing it on, that's a bigger problem.
- For the worker: open-ended hours, or "we'll see" on the rate. Don't start before the number and the hours have been said out loud.
- For the worker: scope that grows on arrival — "while you're here, could you also...". You're entitled to say that's outside what was agreed, and to be paid for it if you do it.
- For the worker: anyone asking you to leave your ID or phone with them. There is no legitimate reason for that.
- For both: an agent or broker taking an undisclosed cut, or working to keep the two sides from speaking plainly to each other.
- Docking pay for something broken: accidents happen in any job. Agree how you'll handle breakage at the start, not in the middle of the incident.
Eidak: known terms, and money that's already there
Most of this work is arranged by word of mouth and WhatsApp — and both sides pay for that. The household doesn't know who's coming; the worker has no guarantee of being paid.
